No IPX/SPX protocol

Why was the IPX/SPX protocol removed from Windows Vista and Windows 7?















Yes, I know that TCP/IP replaced it, but you still need the IPX/SPX protocol, if you want to play old DOS games in LAN.

To-do for Microsoft:
  • Bring the IPX/SPX protocol back.

    Ah hell no, leave that garbage out where it belongs. It's simply not necessary. What IS necessary on the other hand, is IP over 1394 that was removed with Vista. Why the hell did MS take out IP over 1394 support? *facepalm*

    Don't know. There seems to be no logic; they also took out "Edit|Invert Selection" menu item. Luckily, they are adding it back quite soon.

    No one cares about firewire.. USB is much more popular.. I've never even met anyone that uses IP over 1394. :P

    IPX is used in legacy games, and the lack of it kinda sucks.

    But all older than generals c&c games works with ipx and it would be nice to play old school. And 1 reason why i bought windows 7 was "you can play old game wit this os" yes single play but not fuckin multiplay even at LAN!

    Hopefully, some of the games may work with DOSbox. It has an internal IPX support and it should work over the Internet as well, at least as far as I know...
