In DOS era it was so easy to make a RAM drive by loading RAMDRIVE.SYS using DEVICE or DEVICEHIGH command in the CONFIG.SYS file. Now when RAM is incredibly fast and cheap, there is no ability to make RAM drive without 3rd party software. Why?
To-do for Microsoft:
- Windows 7 should have built-in ability to make RAM drives
110% agreed here. With DOS (and even under Win9x with that same driver) it was easy to make a RAM drive but in XP/Vistaids it's totally impossible? Yes, of all the things 7 needs, a RAM drive is actually high on that list. There are many thousands of useless little quirky features that 2K/XP/Vista have had available under the hood, so why not make the RAM disk driver available?
